Madrid Markets

The markets in Madrid are not only a great place to find bargains or simply to look around and enjoy the exciting atmosphere. Later at night the markets become a marvellous social location, being full of pubs and bars. So if you are planning to go to Madrid, visiting marketplaces is definitely a must. On the markets you can find all kinds of articles like clothes, antiques, CDs, DVDs,  food, plants, books and many more. And if you decide to go to the market, go in the morning, because in the afternoon it will be very crowded. And be very careful with your wallet and other important documents, because there are pickpockets around.   

El Rastro, The Trace

One of the most famous and biggest flea markets in Madrid and even in the world is El Rastro. El Rastro is between Plaza de Cascorro, Calle Ribera and the side streets.
What you can find on the market are antiques, clothes and lots of useless bits and pieces. On Ribera de Curtidores Street you can primarily get handcraft articles, jeans, new clothes and handmade clothes. On General Vara del Rey Square you will find second-hand clothes, leather jackets, second-hand Levi’s and you can even get furniture. If you are looking for antiquities you have to move towards to Rodas Street, Ribera de Curtidores Street and Galerías Piquer. The market is open on sundays and public holidays from 10:30 till 15:00. The nearest metro stations are La Latina, Tirso de Molina, Embajadores and Acacias. Or you can go by bus: C 17, 27, 36, 39.

Cuesta de Moyano

Cuesta de Moyano can be found at Calle de Claudio Moyano. It has about 30 outdoor stands, where you can buy and sell new and second-hand books. The market is open Sunday morning from 10:30 and the nearest metro station is Atocha. Or go by bus: 45, 27, 14, 34, 37.

The Stamp Market

The stamp market is at Plaza Mayor where collectors getting together to buy and sell stamps, coins and banknotes. The market is open on Sunday morning and a few days during the holidays. The nearest metro station is Sol.

Conde de Barajas Market

The Conde de Barajas Market can be found at Plaza del Conde de Barajas. Located near the Plaza Mayor, artists attempt to sell their paintings in this square. So you if you do like paintings and don’t want to pay much than it is a good alternative. The market is open at Sunday mornings and the nearest metro station is La Latina.

Model-Maker Street Market

The Railway Model-Maker Street Market is located at Paseo Delicias 61 in the Museo del Ferrocarril, which is the Old Delicias Railway Station. You can see a section about civil and military miniatures, ships, planes, soldiers, etc. The market is open from 10.00 to 15.00 h. every first Sunday of the month except in august it will be closed. The nearest metro station is Delicias, you can go by bus 8, 18, 19, 45, 47, 85, 86 or you can take the suburban train Delicias. You can dial this phone number for more information: +34 902 22 88 22.

Maravillas Food Market

The Maravillas Food Market is not situated near the centre, but it is the largest market in Madrid.  There you can find many types of meat, fruit and plenty of fish. The Maravillas Food Market is situated at Bravo Murillo, 122 in Tetuán. You can get there by metro linia 1: Alvarado, zona Cuatro Caminos.
