Avila

Avila

...115 km northwest of Madrid

Avila is almost in a world of its own; partially because it is literally surrounded by massive medieval walls. Once conquered by the Moors and then the Christians, it has since then calmed down and become a quiet refuge near the Gredos mountains. Other points of interest include the perserved severed finger of Saint Teresa. This religous relic can be viewed on display at the city's 14th century cathedral.

How to get there?

To get to Avila, take a train from Atocha station or a bus from Mendez Alvaro. By car, drive north-west on highway N-VI.
